Hello there, and welcome to a joint production of New Life Radio and biblebase.com which we are calling ‘Broken Bread’. I’m Ron Bailey and I plan to work my way slowly through the epistle to the churches of Galatia, usually known simply as Galatians.

These ‘Broken Bread’ Bible studies will begin as a live broadcast on NewLifeRadio.co.uk with the help of Mike Cole and will probably be repeated. Check the schedule. They will also sit on the website of biblebase.com which is hosted by myself, Ron Bailey in Reading in the UK and my good friend Robert Wurtz II in Independence, Missouri.

On biblebase.com you will find the audio recordings in the Broken Bread dropdown. You will also find study notes there. You can download them and print them if you prefer or you can open them in a dynamic HTML file. If you use the HTML version you will find twister/disclosure triangles which will enable you to hide part of the notes that otherwise might distract you.

These studies are based on a course of studies conducted at the Church Life School in Reading more than 30 years ago. The students had a good background of English but I was aware that English was not their first language so the notes will reflect that. We used to sit around a vast Victorian Dining Table, usually less than a dozen of us, and with the notes, on the table, I would talk my way through the study.

That picture is still in my mind and is partly responsible for calling these studies ‘Broken Bread’. We are seated together in good fellowship. As far as possible I want to reproduce that mood. The other reason for calling it ‘Broken Bread’ is a well know verse in 2 Timothy 2:2.

And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. (2 Tim 2:2 NKJV)

For many years I thought that sounded as though Paul was commissioning Timothy to take the baton on to the next lap. It had a ring of formal commissioning about it. But some years ago I dipped a little deeper.  The word ‘commit’ is not related to commissions or passing on the torch at all.  It is a word that means to spread a table for a meal. So welcome to “Broken Bread”, a table set before you where you may eat as much or as little as you have an appetite for in an atmosphere of friendly fellowship. Let’s ‘break bread’ together in the Word of God. Do let us know how you get on with the content and the style, we want you to be comfortable at our little feast. Let’s make a start…
